NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed today that the Edmonton Oilers could move Evander Kane ahead of the trade deadline.

Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane has been out the entire season so far after he underwent surgery late in the offseason to repair injuries that he was playing through in the playoffs last season.

His status has been up in the air for some time as the organization remains quiet about him.

However, we may have just gotten a major update on his situation.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Kane has submitted his 16-team no-trade list to the Oilers, and now the organization is deciding if it would be worth it to move him.

Kane had to make this move as his full no-trade protection expired yesterday.

He added that the Oilers may very well trade Kane in order to get his contract off the books, giving the team added cap flexibility going into the trade deadline, which is less than a week away.

Kane has a cap hit of 5.125 million dollars with another year left on his deal after this one.

If he does in fact get moved, it would not be an unusual occurrence for the power forward.

Kane has already played for four different clubs throughout his career including the Oilers.

He has a history of wearing out his welcome as he became a villain in Winnipeg before he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres.

Then again, he became a villain after he was traded to the San Jose Sharks after he violated an NHL rule, getting his contract terminated by the team.

That is how he ended up in Edmonton. With that in mind, clubs around the league may be a bit skeptical about bringing him on.

Kane has 326 goals and 617 points in 930 career regular-season NHL games.
