Elliotte Friedman Reveals Why The Oilers Scratched Evander Kane
The Edmonton Oilers recently scratched star forward Evander Kane. The odd move came a day after he was seen arguing with Leon Draisaitl. Now Elliotte Friedman has confirmed the reason for the scratch.
The Edmonton Oilers season has been filled with a ton of drama over the last several months. Starting off with the firing of former head coach Jay Woodcroft. The Oilers also sent down starting goaltender Jack Campbell to the AHL where he has remained since. Last week however might have been the biggest riff in the Edmonton Oilers lock room all season.
During a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs where the Edmonton Oilers got blown out tensions boiled over between stars Leon Draisaitl and Evander Kane. The two could be seen shouting at one another on the bench.
It is unclear what exactly caused the argument between the two but the team seems to have chosen a side in the argument. Just one game after this incident Evander Kane was scratched from the lineup. Many assumed the disagreement was the reason for him to be scratched and today NHL insider Elliotte Friedman was able to provide an answer.
Friedman confirms Evander Kane was scratched due to his fight with Leon Draisaitl
In a new segment on his 32 Thoughts Podcast, Elliotte Friedman spoke about the surprise move to scratch Evander Kane. Elliotte Friedman says the team has claimed Evander Kane's absence is due to maintenance but he is not so sure.
EF on 32TP about Kane's scratch:
«Kris Knoblauch came out before the Ottawa game on Sunday night and said Kane is out for maintenance you could tell the reporters who were there didn't believe it. I wondered about it too, is this a healthy scratch that they're keeping quiet. I wonder if the Oilers were just saying, we wanna do something here but we don't wanna pour gasoline on the fire... but that scratch a day after McDavid and Draisaitl getting roughed up a bit and Kane being a guy who can definitely do something, it had people wondering.»
This doesn't necessarily confirm that Evander Kane was scratched just due to the fight but Elliotte Friedman's opinion alone should carry a lot of weight. Heading into the playoffs Evander Kane being healthy and in form will be a huge key to the Edmonton Oilers' success.
