The Florida Panthers appear set for another deep Stanley Cup run in 2023-24, but unfortunately they've got some bad injury news just weeks away from the playoffs.
On Tuesday during the second night of a back-to-back, the Florida Panthers announced the surprise scratch of Matthew Tkachuk, and while that was only related to illness, the team now have worse news to announce.
Now, the team have unfortunately revealed that forward Carter Verhaeghe will miss the remainder of the regular season, and while it's unlikely at this point that he misses time in the post-season, he won't be back until Game 1 at the earliest.
Carter Verhaeghe (upper body) is week to week, per Maurice.
They don't expect him to miss any playoff games, but he might not be ready until Game 1.
With such a star studded lineup, the Panthers still have the talent to compete with anyone down the stretch, but as we saw in 2022-23, depth was one of their biggest strengths, and they'll need it again to battle New York, Toronto, Boston and the top teams in the Eastern Conference. This is still a tough loss for the Panthers however, as Verhaeghe has been a consistent force once again this year with 71 points in just 75 games played, so now the team will hope they can build momentum ahead of the playoffs and get him back before what should be another deep run in 2023-24.
