The Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans got linked to five playoff-contending teams by the insider Frank Seravalli.

Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton, the Montreal Canadiens general manager and President of Hockey Operations have always made their stance clear on the trade market: they won't sacrifice the future of the team for rentals, and they won't agree on a trade that isn't beneficial for the organization.

That's why the chances of seeing Jake Evans being traded this season are thin. Even if the forward is set to become a free agent in July, it would be surprising to see the Habs pull the trigger on a trade.

However, he's still considered by most analysts as one of the top trade assets in Montreal.

While it's hard to believe a trade will occur, five teams with playoff aspirations were linked to Evans.

Indeed, in a new report, Frank Seravalli stated that the Toronto Maple Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets, Calgary Flames, New Jersey Devils, and Washington Capitals will be interested in trading for Evans.

This is what Seravalli wrote in a recent paper on Daily Faceoff:

"Washington Capitals: Believe the Caps were the team that tried to acquire Evans last summer at the Draft in exchange for a second-round pick, and that makes some sense. They've tried to fill that 3C role this year with Lars Eller, but Evans would be a better fit.

Toronto Maple Leafs: It feels unholy because it's the Leafs, but GM Brad Treliving has acknowledged he is looking for a third-line center and specifically pointed out that he wanted someone «reliable on both sides of the puck and can add offense.»

New Jersey Devils: The Devils are looking for an upgrade on Erik Haula and a way to increase their depth scoring. Evans could be a fit and these two teams have been recent trade partners.

Calgary Flames: Could see the Flames being interested in a right-shooting center like Evans, even if he doesn't necessarily provide the high-end scoring touch they're after. They have the draft picks to make it work.

Columbus Blue Jackets: If GM Don Waddell is looking for a relatively low-cost, reliable reward for the Blue Jackets this season, could Evans fit the bill? He could easily be re-signed to stay."

Unless they get an offer they can't refuse, the Montreal Canadiens are unlikely to trade Evans.

Every team would love a player like him on their lineup, including the Canadiens. He's definitely a part of the solution in Montreal.
