NHL makes determination regarding suspension of Jacob Trouba
The NHL appears to have made a determination on the potential suspension of Jacob Trouba after his insane attempt to hit on Martin Necas.
During the New York Rangers versus the Carolina Hurricanes series, Jacob Trouba tried to set the tone by laying a massive hit on the Hurricane's Martin Necas. While he didn't make contact, it was the absence of the contact that made it clear just how dirty the potential hit could have been. During the play, Trouba launched his whole body at Necas, going horizontal and extending his elbow.
Now it has been determined that Trouba will not be suspended by the NHL for his attempted hit, as the deadline for the NHL to make a decision has passed. This is likely due to the fact that he did not make contact with Necas.
If Jacob Trouba had made contact with Martin Necas' head, he would likely have been suspended for the rest of the playoffs.
The NHL Department of Player Safety has chosen not to discipline him at all, however, as the 5PM deadline has passed.

The hit has drawn a lot of criticism on social media as people called for Trouba to be suspended for his potential hit. It is clear that Trouba went too far here, and there was really no control over the potential danger that he could have inflicted with his recklessness.
The Rangers were able to close out the game in double overtime, beating the Canes 4-3 and taking a 2-0 lead in the series.
