The Philadelphia Flyers and John Tortorella are known to make unconventional moves with top players and it looks like a recent benching could lead to a trade.

Back in 2018, the Philadelphia Flyers selected Joel Farabee with the 14th overall pick. Two years later, he debuted for the Flyers and looked like a potential 2nd line winger for the coming years. Last year, Farabee had a career season scoring 22 goals and 50 points finally looking like he had started to break out.

However, this year he has regressed, scoring only 14 points through 42 games this year. This regression has led to John Tortorella scratching Farabee in favor of others. Here is what the Flyers head coach had to say about scratching Farabee:

"Up until probably a couple of weeks ago, I liked his game.

The production wasn't there, but he was involved. And we break tapes down, and we have all sorts of information after games, and he's involved in a lot of the opportunities

I think he cares. He fights the other night. It's hard for me to take him out. He fights for his team.

I think he's fighting just to try to get some juice within us. It's not easy taking him out.

Sometimes you take out players for punitive stuff, and sometimes you take players out just let him get away from a bit.

So this isn't punitive. I need to get him playing better. Maybe he watches, and I'm not sure where it goes." - John Tortorella

On top of Tortorella scratching Farabee, insider Frank Seravalli ranked Farabee in the top 10 of his trade board indicating he believes Farabee will be moved soon.

"Few players on the Trade Targets board need a change of scenery more than Farabee.

On pace for just 12 goals and 28 points, this is the worst season of Farabee's six-year NHL career and John Tortorella doesn't seem to be going anywhere." - Frank Seravalli

We will now be on the lookout for a potential Farabee trade and see if a change of scenery was all that he needed like Seravalli claimed.
