Sidney Crosby's contract and future has been a major talking point in Pittsburgh, and now the Penguins social media team has their fans disappointed.
After 20 seasons in Pittsburgh, captain Sidney Crosby remains one of the best players in the world, but heading into the final season of his latest deal, he could hit unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2025. However, it appears that both parties are looking to get a deal done before then, with Penguins reporter Mark Madden revealing a deal could be made on his 37th birthday.
That birthday is significant, as the numbers 8/7 mean so much to him, with his jersey number, his birthday, and the cap hit on his latest contract all coming in at that number, so it made sense that they could announce it today.
These tweets are a major tease/disappointment for everyone waiting on bigger news lol
That birthday has arrived, but unfortunately for Penguins fans, no extension, just a birthday post for their fearless captain who has done nothing but disappoint their fans. This certainly isn't the fault of their social media team, as it was a reporter who was responsible for getting their hopes up, only to be disappointed with their first post of the day.
Training camp is still a matter of weeks away, and after tallying an incredible 42 goals and 94 points last season, he remains an elite player that the Penguins want to keep on board, so expect a deal to get done soon.
