Pittsburgh Penguins Apparently Working on Sidney Crosby's Extension
After Sidney Crosby got involved in plenty of trade rumors at the deadline, a new development suggests the Penguins are currently working to make sure he stays for the rest of his career.
Penguins Working to Extend Sidney Crosby's Contract
Crosby, who has a year left on his contract, already expressed his desire to end his career in Pittsburgh.
Frank Seravalli reported that the Penguins and Crosby have already discussed about a contract extension, which could be officially announced when the free agent market opens.
"The #Penguins 🇺🇸 have already discussed a contract extension with franchise cornerstone and top-10 player in league history, Sidney Crosby 🇨🇦
Seravalli believes that he could sign the dotted line within minutes of July 1st, when he becomes eligible to do so.
Colorado fans can now stop the mock trades."
Crosby was drafted first overall in 2005 by the Penguins and scored 1566 points in 1254 games since then. This season, he has 32 goals and 32 assists in 64 games.
We don't know what Crosby's extension will look like. Considering that he'll be 38 years old when his current deal expires, it's expected that he'll sign for two or three years. And with the salary cap slowly going up, the Penguins shouldn't hesitate to give him something above nine or ten million a year.
