For several weeks now since the Toronto Maple Leafs were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs fans have been curious about the future of Mitch Marner. He struggled during the 2024 playoffs and seems to be the odd man out if changes are made.
Recently when asked about the Mitch Marner situation David Pagnotta believed that once the time came for Mitch Marner to be traded that the new Utah Hockey Club would be a good fit.
The new owner of the Utah Hockey Club Ryan Smith has been open that the team will be aggressive in improving the team. This makes Mitch Marner who is one of the best players potentially available a likely target. Now a new report from David Pagnotta believes that the negotiations surrounding Mitch Marner will begin soon.
Today David Pagnotta once again addressed the Mitch Marner rumors. This time he indicated that the Maple Leafs are expected to begin taking calls on Mitch Marner soon.
The insider does not mention teams that are likely to call but the Utah Hockey Club, Nashville Predators, and Seattle Kraken were teams he had previously mentioned earlier this offseason. The Toronto Maple Leafs would likely prefer to send their soon-to-be former star out of the Eastern Conference so these teams would make sense.
With the NHL Draft coming up in just over a week look for these trade talks to potentially pick up. If nothing is done by the time the NHL Draft begins then the start of Free Agency would be the next potential deadline for things to move.
