The Toronto Maple Leafs have been linked to St. Louis Blues defenseman Colton Parayko by NHL insider David Pagnotta for a potential defensive boost.
After a lackluster playoffs, the Toronto Maple Leafs have moved forward with their offseason and have begun looking for defensive talent.
GM Brad Treliving is reportedly targeting 6'6 defenseman Colton Parayko of the St. Louis Blues to provide a defensive presence that could be paired with Morgan Rielly on the top pair.
The #LeafsForever are linked to #stlblues 6'6" defenseman Colton Parayko by David Pagnotta. Parayko led the NHL in blocked shots last year with 218 and averaged a career-high 23:51 TOI. He will be making $6.5m per year till he is 36.
Parayko is certainly an interesting target for the Leafs as he brings a lot of defensive power and is the ideal shutdown defenseman for most teams. He also comes with a lot of contract control being signed for another six years.
With only Rielly, Jake McCabe, Simon Benoit, and Conor Timmins under contract for next year, the Leafs are in need of a right-handed defenseman as only Timmins is the only righty amongst that group. We will now wait and see if the Leafs make a move for Parayko or another defenseman this coming offseason but certainly something will come.
