With a 13-6-2 start to the 2024/25 season, the Toronto Maple Leafs are building into quite an impressive campaign, especially in the absence of captain Auston Matthews, who has been out since the first week of November.
However, they have identified a weakness or two on their roster, with arguably the biggest being their third-line center role, and while they are looking at Max Domi in that role once Matthews returns, there are other options out there to add additional depth to this team.
Now one intriguing name has been identified, with David Pagnotta listing the team as a potential suitor for Morgan Frost of the Philadelphia Flyers, who is all but guaranteed to be on a new team when the trade deadline rolls around.
At 25 years of age, the former first-round draft pick has steadily improved over the past few seasons, posting 19 goals & 46 goals and then 13 goals & 41 points over his past two seasons.
While Frost is still young, he's ready to help a team compete for the Stanley Cup Playoffs now, and with the uncertainty of John Tavares' future in Toronto, he would be good insurance to have.
As of right now however, Frost is an RFA next season, giving the Maple Leafs another massive decision to make in the summer if they do land him, along with the free agency of Tavares and star forward Mitch Marner.
Ultimately, there are other teams interested in Frost, with Pagnotta naming at least Anaheim and Chicago as potential suitors as well, but Frost's future appears very bright, meaning that if he lands in Toronto, they've secured a key piece of their third line moving forward.
