Ferraro was involved in trade rumors off and on throughout the season as the Sharks figured to be sellers at the trade deadline. They ultimately did end up trading away many of their high-value players headlined by Anthony Duclair and Tomas Hertl. However, Grier never pulled the trigger on a Ferraro deal, so the blueliner stayed with team teal for the remainder of the regular season. As did centerman Luke Kunin, who also had drawn some attention in trade rumors this season. Now, Brad Treliving may look to acquire both players in a blockbuster deal.
That being said, Treliving may have a hard time getting a deal to work with Mike Grier. The asking price for Ferraro alone is reportedly set at a 1st round draft pick, a top prospect, and perhaps even a third, 'high-value' asset. That is a lot to pay for a defenseman who set a career high with 21 points this season.
Where Ferraro gains his value is in his age. At just 25 years old, he is just entering his prime. Furthermore, he is on a very manageable contract that comes with just a 3.25 million dollar cap hit over the course of the next two seasons. It is not often players of Ferraro's age and contract status become available on the trade market.
