Beloved Canucks broadcaster announces life-changing news
Canucks broadcaster Joey Kenward was diagnosed with leukemia last November and has revealed some good news that it is now in remission.
Kenward made the announcement Thursday on X that he received a bone marrow transplant using stem cells donated to him by someone who wanted to remain anonymous, and that when he went in for a follow-up biopsy, the doctors gave him the good news that the cancer was in remission.
«The test results that came back were exactly what we were hoping for,» Kenward said. «The new stem cells inside my blood are performing well and the cancer cells remain in remission.»
Kenward has been an on-air Canucks host for Sportsnet 650 since 2017. He was also the broadcast host and reporter for Canucks Sports and Entertainment from 2011 to 2017.
Kenward revealed to the world that he was diagnosed with leukemia last December and that he had to be hospitalized. He is part of the B.C. Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Program.
Kenward thanked his family, which includes his partner Amanda and son Jayden, for their love "during many stressful months in and out of hospital." Kenward is only 46.
We wish Joey continued success in his battle against this awful disease, but hopefully, the worst of it is now in the rear-view mirror and he can once again focus on calling Canucks games.
