NHL analyst Don Cherry shared his controversial opinion on Elias Pettersson recently as he weighed in on the Canucks conundrum.

The Vancouver Canucks seem to have three options right now.
They can trade Elias Pettersson, trade JT Miller, or keep both and continue to stagnate.
Apparently, the team got close to trading Pettersson a few days ago, but that deal fell through when the Carolina Hurricanes acquired Mikko Rantanen from the Avalanche.
Now infamous NHL analyst Don Cherry has shared his thoughts on the situation saying that no NHL team would want Pettersson in a trade.
"Nobody would want him. He's the third-highest [paid player in the NHL] he had one good year."
It should be noted that Pettersson is not, in fact, the third highest-paid player in the NHL.
Rather, he is the 5th highest-paid player by cap hit behind Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews, Nathan MacKinnon, and Artemi Panarin.
Several players including Leon Draisaitl and William Nylander are set to surpass Pettersson's cap hit when their new deals kick in next season as well, which will bump him down that list even further.
Similarly, it is insincere at best to say that Pettersson had just one good year in the NHL so far.
In his rookie season, he scored 28 goals and 66 points in 71 games, winning the Calder trophy.
In his second year, he scored 66 points again, this time in 68 games, earning his second all-star nomination in as many years.
Every year of his career has been very good aside from the 2020-21 season, much of which he missed with an injury.
Even then though he scored 21 points in 26 games.
Over the past three seasons, Pettersson has 84 goals and 221 points in 204 games.
His scoring has indeed declined this season, but the non-stop drama surrounding the team may very well be playing a significant role in that.
That being said, some fans have also pointed to Rick Tocchet's system as a reason for it as it does not match his playstyle very well.
Needless to say, Pettersson has a lot of value in the trade market.
In fact, he would appear to have more value than JT Miller, which is exactly why the Canucks are even considering moving him in the first place.
