The Vancouver Canucks appear to be willing to move Elias Pettersson, and now one Sportsnet analyst has provided a shock trade to send him to Montreal.

Despite putting up career numbers a year ago, the Vancouver Canucks are willing to listen on Elias Pettersson, and now it appears a blockbuster trade could be on the way this season for EP40 and Vancouver.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman linked Pettersson to the Buffalo Sabres in recent days, and now another Sportsnet analyst has provided a shock trade idea, this time involving the Montreal Canadiens.

On the Fan Hockey Show, Mike Futa suggested this trade involving Vancouver and Montreal, and it's very safe to say that the suggestion has divided opinion on social media over who gets the better of the deal:

Vancouver gets: Cole Caufield, Christian Dvorak, and David Savard

Montreal gets: Elias Pettersson, a second-round draft pick.

Outrage in the comments was split between whichever team should be most offended by the offer, with both teams giving up major assets in the hypothetical trade scenario.

For Montreal, landing a star like Elias Pettersson down the middle would be fantastic, and getting rid of Dvorak and Savard would no doubt help, but in the process, they would be giving up their biggest homegrown star, who has put up an impressive 17 goals in 31 games this season.

For Vancouver, it would further limit their depth down the middle, and while they'd be getting a star in Caufield and two solid veterans, the most likely return for Pettersson will need to be a center of some sort.

Ultimately, this one is just as wild as the Buffalo to Vancouver trade suggested by Friedman (Byram and Cozens for Pettersson), and while Pettersson may potentially be available, it's safe to say that neither of these trades is very likely to happen.
