The Vancouver Canucks lost two big free agents this past summer, and now Nikita Zadorov reveals what led to his departure.
This past summer saw an unprecedented amount of player movement in the NHL, and for the Vancouver Canucks, they lost their two big acquisitions from this past season, with both Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov moving along in free agency. While the two getting paid in free agency was absolutely no surprise, both departing Vancouver certainly wasn't to be expected, with the Canucks reportedly giving Lindholm a massive offer.
Now, Zadorov has opened up on the negotiations that caused him to depart Vancouver, revealing how things got disrespectful at times, leading to his move to sign in Boston.
«Right now, it's probably a little bit disrespectful to talk about your exes,» Zadorov said with a laugh on a recent episode of the What Chaos! Podcast. «We wanted to stay at the startWe tried to sort it out but there's a point in negotiations when you check boxes and then a couple things didn't go the way we wanted to, and [it] kind of felt a little bit disrespectful, too.»
«We disagreed on the details before the playoffs and postponed the negotiations,» Zadorov said at the time. «After the playoffs, when I was in Vancouver, we tried to reach an agreement, but unfortunately, it didn't work Tocchet has a great system and is a great teacher who helps young players develop their skills. His analysis is excellent, and he understands how to prepare his players for each game.»
This isn't the first time that Zadorov has complained about negotiations with a team he has departed, with the hulking Russian also doing the same after he believes he was disrespected by the Calgary Flames in negotiations last summer. Ultimately, it's unclear what the offer was from the Canucks that Zadorov deemed to not be acceptable, but for now, it's safe to say that their next meeting will certainly bring plenty of fire.
