The NHL announced yesterday that for their cross checks on Connor McDavid that occured at the end of game 3 between the Oilers and the Canucks, Nikita Zadorov would be fined $5,000 and Carson Soucy would serve a one-game suspension.
If you missed it, McDavid got cross checked twice in a matter of seconds: once in the back, and the other in the face.
With McDavid being the main instigator and the Oilers' massive response on their opponents, many people were shocked to see that only the Canucks had consequences from the NHL.
Especially Rick Tocchet, the Canucks' coach. In a press conference, he asked the NHL to suspend Zach Hyman for a cross check on Zadorov that occured in the same scrum.
For us, the only difference between Zadorov's hit and Hyman's was the players on the receiving end: McDavid and Zadorov.
It looks clear that Zadorov and Soucy got punished by the NHL because McDavid was on the other side. Hyman got away with it because he hit Zadorov and he isn't a superstar in the League.
Do you think the NHL would've suspended Soucy and fined Zadorov if any other player had been on the receiving end of their cross checks?
