Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Matt Murray recently opened up about his recovery from hip surgery and his hopes for the upcoming 2024-25 NHL season during an appearance on the Slangin' the Bizkit podcast. After missing the entire 2023-24 season due to bilateral hip surgery, Murray made a brief comeback with the AHL's Toronto Marlies, helping them secure a playoff spot.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future with the Leafs, the team re-signed him on July 1st to a one-year contract worth $875,000.

On the podcast, Murray shared that his hips haven't felt this good in years, revealing that he's been dealing with hip pain since his early days in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The pain had begun to affect other areas, including his back, groin, and ankles, prompting him to undergo surgery as a reset.

Looking ahead to the new season, Murray is focused on proving he can stay healthy and contribute, whether with the Maple Leafs or the Marlies. With training camp approaching, it will be interesting to see how he competes for the backup role, especially with the addition of 2024 Stanley Cup champion Anthony Stolarz to the roster.
