The 2024 Paris Olympic Games have not been without controversy, and just as things appeared to have settled down and the Games were winding down, there was one final issue that had to add to all of the insanity, and that was how LeBron James treated a fan following Team USA's gold medal basketball win against France. Following the video of LeBron mistreating a young fan that went viral, former NHL referee Tim Peel would have none of it and spoke his mind on social media.
Just to add a little context to the situation, LeBron James was seen walking outside, attempting to cross a street to enter a nightclub where he was about to go celebrate his victory, when a young fan tried stopping him for a photo opportunity. LeBron seemed to be extremely annoyed in that moment and shouted at the fan, telling him he would absolutely not be taking any pictures with him. LeBron came close to almost physically shoving the boy.
Tim Peel, a very controversial referee who was fired by the NHL for calling unnecessary penalties because he "felt like it", fired back at LeBron on social media, saying it was unacceptable what he did and that no NHL player would have ever done that to a fan, let alone it being such a young boy.
Despite the fact that NHL players engage in fights on the ice and throw their body around, they are also known to be very accommodating to fans and really get involved in the community. LeBron James really ruined his reputation after this act he committed, and he will likely have to deal with the after effects of this for quite some time.
