The NHL is one of the most prestigious leagues in the sports world. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to play at a high level in the NHL. One NHL veteran was able to play in the league for 16 years. Now after several years away he is returning to pro hockey.
NHL Vet Returns To Professional Hockey
A new report has confirmed that 16 year NHL veteran enforcer Donald Brashear is returning to professional hockey. Brashear will be playing in the Quebec-based Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey (LNAH). Brashear has signed a one-year deal with the Marquis de Jonquière.
51 year old Donald Brashear has signed with the Marquis de Jonquière (LNAH)
At 51 years old Brashear will look to return to his younger years and help Marquis de Jonquière win a championship.
"I'm very happy to be part of the Jonquière Marquis. It's going to be a pleasure for me to help out the team, and hopefully win a cup," said Brashear in a news release from the team.
This will be Brashear's second stint in the LNAH after previously playing there in 2015-16. In 7 games during that season, Brashear had 2 points and 10 penalty minutes in 7 games.
New Team Ecstatic To Have Brashear
A source confirmed that there was a bit of a bidding war between teams in the LNAH for Brashear once he made his interest known. The Marquis de Jonquière ended up winning out and their owner Bob Desjardins couldn't be happier.
"For me, it's like wow! I managed to convince Donald to join us. From the start of our conversations, I sensed that Brash wasn't closed to the idea. I have enormous respect for the man. Guys who have played over 1,000 NHL games, that's an incredible feat.
Yes, he's 51, but it's incredible that he's still in such great shape. I'm 56 and it's hard for me to put my socks on in the morning." - Bob Desjardins
Brashear is likely to bring people to the arena based on his name alone. It will be interesting to see if he can play at a level comparable to the other players in the LNAH even at the age of 51.
