Matthew Tkachuk has officially told the Calgary Flames he will not be signing an extension with the team, so it's no longer if Matthew Tkachuk is going to be traded, now it's when.
It's only been a rumour but apparently Tkachuk gave the team a list of 5 teams he would be willing to sign with but that was later proven wrong by Eric Francis, but just a day later, we have learned that a new team is the favourite to land him.
Devils +400 (4/1)
Blues +450 (9/2)
Predators +500 (5/1)
Sabres +600 (6/1)
Senators +600 (6/1)
Stars +650 (13/2)
Apparently the Devils were interested in acquiring Matthew Tkachuk at the NHL entry draft, in a deal that would have involved the 2nd overall pick. But apparently neither side could come to terms on a deal.
Few weeks later now that Tkachuk is officially available, it appears the Devils are back in the race and pushing hard for this power forward.
Tkachuk has had his arbitration set for August 11th and the Flames will either have to accept whatever offer is given or let him walk away. If he is awarded an unreasonable deal that would make it too high of a cap hit to trade, they will definitely lose some value and possible trade partners.
The Devils are loaded with young talent, prospects and picks, a deal should definitely be able to be made here.
