It will be a different league without Zdeno Chara in it. He has played for so long, he is just one of those guys you expect to be around next season. Chara definitely has had a career worthy of a first ballot Hall of Famer.

In the coming weeks, Chara is expected to officially announce his retirement from the National Hockey League.

Chara was drafted 56th overall back in 1996 by the New York Islanders. He played 4 seasons with the Islanders before getting traded to the Ottawa Senators in a package that got the Islanders Alexei Yashin.

Over his career of 1680 games, Chara scored 209 goals and 471 assists for a total of 680 points. While he had quite a few great offensive seasons, Chara was more known for his defensive abilities. His 6'09 body was perfect for covering all the area infront of the net.

Chara went back to where it all began this season and finished it off with the New York Islanders, where this past season he passed Chris Chelios for the most games played by an NHL defenceman.

When it's all said and done, Chara has been a 6x All-star, Norris trophy winner and captained the Boston Bruins to the Stanley Cup in 2011.

We are all sad to see Chara go, but it was a pleasure to watch him throughout his career.

Enjoy retirement Zdeno.
