We now know where Alex Galchenyuk will be playing this season with his new team in Russia.
Galchenyuk's Opportunity Revealed
Today Alex Galchenyuk will be playing his first game with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL as their regular season starts today. His role with the team has been revealed as they posted their starting lineup.
This is our team to play Dynamo Moscow!
Mattsson (Ivanov)
First line: Nikishin, Sergeev - Tolchinsky, Galchenyuk, Khairullin
Galchenyuk will be getting an opportunity as SKA's 1st line center which is no small role.
Galchenyuk's Teammates
While Galchenyuk is the 1st line center, his wingers are no slouches either. On his left side is Sergei Tolchinsky who has played NHL games in the past. On his right side is Marat Khairullin. While he has never made the NHL, he is more than capable in the KHL having posted 54 points in 65 games last season.
On top of this, there are 12 NHL-affiliated players on SKA's roster including Matvei Michkov and Alexander Nikishin (KHL defenseman of the year last year). There is also Brendan Leipsic as the only other North American on this team.
Overall, Galchenyuk will be getting a massive opportunity to turn his career around and if he is able to impress, he could eventually return to the NHL with a larger role.
