The Calgary Flames have been in a whirlwind over the past 18 months following the loss of their two biggest stars, and now, they face the departure of yet another top name.
A key piece
Elias Lindholm has been a crucial part of the Flames lineup for a number of years now, and after seeing Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk leave last year, he could be following them out.
Reports all summer have had the Flames offering him a big, long-term deal, but the Swede has stayed silent on the topic for most of the off-season, but now, No. 28 has spoken on the matter and his future in Calgary.
A deal coming soon?
When asked about his UFA status and potential for re-signing by Swedish outlet Hockeysverige, this is what he had to say.
I am willing to stay. My agent and Calgary will handle most of it. There's a lot we have to agree on, but I've said that I can consider staying.
I have one year left, but if things don't go as I've planned, then I'll become a free agent. Nothing strange about that. We'll see what happens.
This may not fill Flames fans with too much confidence, but with a big money offer on the table that few teams would be willing to extend him, this is a good sign for them going forward, and there's a chance a resolution could come either before the season or at the trade deadline.
