All Star Defenseman On The Verge Of Having His Career Cut Short
John Klingberg has always been a controversial player. He has never been good defensively, which is not a great look for a defenseman, but his offensive abilities have made up for it throughout his career. However, in the last couple of seasons, he's seemed to fall off quite noticeably and now a reoccurring injury could threaten his future in the league.
NHL Insider Provides Update On Klingberg's Injury Status
NHL insider Chris Johnston reported today that Klingberg's future may be in serious jeopardy. This is most likely due to the reoccurring injury the defenseman mentioned that has kept him out of the Leafs lineup recently.
CJ on the Leaf Report says, in Stockholm, Klingberg "gave an emotional scrum" about how "he so badly wants to play again" and adds "I don't know if he's going to be able to." Man... what happened
Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe seemed to share Johnston's concern over the weekend when he confirmed that the blueliner would not play in Sunday's game. At the very least, he seemed to suggest that Klingberg could easily be out long-term.
John Klingberg won't play tomorrow, per Sheldon Keefe.
Is Keefe worried that Klingberg's injury will keep him out long-term?
«It's certainly getting to that place.»
Toronto Maple Leafs To Share Klingberg's Prognosis Next Week
Elliotte Friedman reported this morning on the 32 thoughts podcast that we may get a more clear picture of Klingberg's future as early as this week.
Friedman on 32TP mentions we may find out about John Klingberg's future this week.
Klingberg has played in 633 NHL games with four different teams, primarily the Dallas Stars. He has 81 goals and 412 points in those games. This season he has 5 assists in 14 games with the Leafs. He last played on November 11th.
