John Klingberg has always been a controversial player. He has never been good defensively, which is not a great look for a defenseman, but his offensive abilities have made up for it throughout his career. However, in the last couple of seasons, he's seemed to fall off quite noticeably and now a reoccurring injury could threaten his future in the league.
Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe seemed to share Johnston's concern over the weekend when he confirmed that the blueliner would not play in Sunday's game. At the very least, he seemed to suggest that Klingberg could easily be out long-term.
Klingberg has played in 633 NHL games with four different teams, primarily the Dallas Stars. He has 81 goals and 412 points in those games. This season he has 5 assists in 14 games with the Leafs. He last played on November 11th.
