Auston Matthews Embarasses Himself After Game Three Loss
Hope among Leafs fans reached an all-time low after yesterday's poor performance. They have only one chance to survive, and they have to beat the Panthers four times in a row.
It won't be an easy task, as Auston Matthews, William Nylander, Mitch Marner, and John Tavares simply don't seem to care. In fact, they failed to score since the beginning of the series against Florida.
Matthews' post-game comments aren't encouraging.
Matthews Embarrasses Himself After Game Three Loss
The Leafs could be on vacation as early as tomorrow, and Matthews doesn't seem to mind.
Here's what he said:
"It's do or die" - Matthews on the Leafs facing an early round two exit.
This is simply unacceptable coming from a guy who makes 11 million per season. He's supposed to lead the team, not discourage his teammates.
Nothing's impossible, but after these comments, he won't get on the fans' good side.
If he wants to redeem himself, he'll have to play better, as well as the other leaders of the team. If they don't, it wouldn't be surprising to see some changes over the summer. Not only in the GM and coach's chairs, but within the players too.
Let's hope Sheldon Keefe has a great speech in mind to give to his players before game four. If not, it would be surprising to see the Leafs rise up from their own.
