This week, the hockey world was turned upside down after the Philadelphia Flyers brokered a trade with the Anaheim Ducks involving 2022 5th-overall pick Cutter Gauthier.
TRADE: We have acquired left wing Cutter Gauthier from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for defenseman
Jamie Drysdale and a second-round selection in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Immediately after the trade was made, there was a lot of speculation on why it happened. It was later revealed that Gauthier would not be signing with the Flyers and would not even talk with GM Daniel Briere.
Sources say Cutter Gauthier informed #Flyers organization he did not want to play in Philadelphia.
Now Gauthier's agent has spoken on the matter and we know a part of the reason why he refused to sign with the Flyers.
Pierre LeBrun also reached out to Cutter Gauthier's agent:
«It's a private issue between the player and his family,» his agent told LeBrun. «We definitely had conversations with Philadelphia, we had very respectable conversations with Philadelphia about it, we've chosen just to take the high road and leave all that information private.»
Now, the Flyers will look to build with their new top defenseman, 2020 6th overall pick Jamie Drysdale. Given how both players are involved are so young, it will take years before we know the definitive winner but both teams landed phenomenal youngsters.
