Since being eliminated in the second round of the playoffs while a member of the Florida Panthers, rumours have been circulating whether or not Thornton would be retiring after being a healthy scratch for a majority of the playoffs. But seeing him continuing to skate definitely doesn't make it seem like he is ready to hang up the skates.
After over 2 months of being available in free agency, it looks like Thornton might be close to signing a contract with one of his former teams.
Training camps are beginning next week and just today Joe Thornton was spotted skating with the San Jose Sharks players. Players do tend to practice with other NHL players during the summer, and Thornton most likely still has his house back in San Jose after spending so many years as a member of the Sharks, but what is surprising is that Thornton was wearing some of the brand new Sharks gear, which is normally just for team players.
Which even adds more to the rumours is the fact that the Sharks are the ones that posted the video:
