40 New Players Placed on Waivers

As with most of this pre-season, many surprising names have hit the waiver wire and today is now different. Many intriguing names have hit the waivers today.

The full list of players is:

Caleb Jones (CAR); Bjork, Christiansen, Dunne, Gaunce, Meyer, Sweezey (CBJ); Petrovic (DET); Czarnik, Gettinger, Hirose, Lethemon, McIsaac, Newpower, Rafferty, Stevens (DAL); Denisenko, Kiersted, Lockwood, True

(FLA) Appleby, Cholowski, Durandeau, Hutton, Koivula, Kuhlmann, Ladue, Pinho, Salo, Skarek (NYI); Brodzinski, Harpur (NYR); Allison (PHI); Carpenter, Lindblom, Peterson (SJ); Aube-Kubel, Limoges, McIlrath, Sgarbossa, Shepard, Snively (WASH).

Many of these players seem like AHL-level players however there are 3 names to keep an eye on.

Option #1 C. Jones

The first option is defenseman Caleb Jones who was placed on waivers by the Carolina Hurricanes. Jones spent the last two seasons with his brother Seth in Chicago, where in 73 games last season Caleb collected 16 points and was a minus 19 on the year.

Although the plus-minus was bad, Caleb Jones played on one of the worst teams in the league and may be worth the claim by any team looking for depth defenseman to add to their lineup.

The 26-year-old defenseman was a fourth-round draft pick by the Edmonton Oilers back in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

Option #2 Aube-Kubel

The second option is defensive center Nicolas Aube-Kubel who was placed on waivers by the Washington Capitals. Aube-Kubel played with the Capitals last season and in 47 games Kubel collected 12 points and was a plus two player.

Aube-Kubel has bounced from team to team these past couple of seasons but has been known to be a reliable depth option at center for the teams he has played for.

The 27-year-old forward was a 2nd round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Option #3 Denisenko

The final option is the most interesting of the three players. Grigori Denisenko was placed on waivers by the Florida Panthers. The former 15th overall selection in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, has failed to find consistent NHL playing time.

In 26 career games, Denisenko has been held goalless with only seven assists in that span. However, in 101 AHL games, Denisenko has shown his talent as he has tallied 26 goals and 63 career points.

Denisenko is still young at 23 years old, meaning he has time to develop. He is the name to keep an eye on to see if any teams bite and claim the once-highly touted player.
