Brad Marchand is renowned as one of the most hated players in the entire NHL, but off the ice, it appears as though he has nothing but respect for his opponents (most of them anyway).
While they've teamed up to play with Team Canada on a few occasions, Sidney Crosby and Marchand have been on opposing sides for their entire NHL careers, with the Bruins captain likely getting under every Penguins skin as he does to every team.
However, off the ice, he recently gave a statement on Crosby, and whether it's true or not, the respect for a fellow Canadian is fantastic to see.
Marchand on #Crosby: «A lot of the attention is on the younger guys, but if you look at the details of the game, and full 200 feet, he's by far the best player in the league »
Is Crosby still the game's best player?
At 36-years of age, Crosby has tallied an impressive 22 goals and 41 points in 37 games this season, but as Marchand points out, Crosby plays the full 200-feet, and remains one of the most well-rounded players in the NHL.
While an argument can be made for the likes of McDavid, MacKinnon, Makar, Kucherov, Matthews and others, there's no debate that Crosby has been an elite player since arriving in the NHL two decades ago, and with a few years left in his body, he's showing few signs of slowing down anytime soon.
