The Edmonton Oilers are the team to watch when it comes to the trade deadline this year, as it is clear they need some sort of move to shore up their roster ahead of a potential playoff run. Their disastrous start to the season has highlighted a few places that the Oilers could look to make a trade for.
One of those would be to add a second-line winger for Leon Draisaitl. The Oilers have been linked to talks with the Penguins regarding Jake Guentzel, a move that would bring Draisaitl the perfect winger and help add scoring to the already deep Oilers.
However, his pending free agency and high cost to acquire could be a deterrent for the Oilers to add Guentzel.
The other glaring issue the Oilers have is in the net, with Jack Campbell not slated to return to the NHL any time soon. To acquire a top-tier goaltender that could help them on a potential run, the Oilers would have to give up a major asset. Luckily, they could afford to deal away Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
The Oilers were previously linked to talks with the Bruins regarding Linus Ullmark, a goalie who is exactly what the Oilers need. The catch is that Ullmark has a 16-team no-trade list, and there is no telling if the Oilers are on that list.
We will have to keep our eyes on the Oilers as the deadline approaches.
