A former first-round pick from the 2016 draft has been given one final chance at proving himself in hopes of earning an NHL contract.

Bellows Signs In Carolina

It was just announced that 2016 19th overall pick Kieffer Bellows has signed a PTO with the Carolina Hurricanes.

The #Canes have signed forwards Kieffer Bellows and Jayden Halbgewachs to professional tryouts.

The two join Cory Conacher, Brendan Perlini, Nick Shore, and defenseman Nathan Beaulieu as PTOs coming to Carolina's training camp.

In addition to this, the Hurricanes added 2018 CHL top scorer Jayden Halbewachs on a PTO to further improve their depth as their 5th and 6th PTOs.

One Final Chance For Bellows

Bellows seems to be holding onto his NHL career by a thread. He has played in parts of the past four seasons registering only 95 games throughout that period. He started last season with the Islanders but played only one game with them before being placed on waivers and claimed by the Flyers.

With the Flyers, Bellows only scored 3 goals in 27 games and was far from a differencemaker on the ice. He did impress in his 12-game stint in the AHL where he scored 10 points in 12 AHL games.

Bellows plays a hard-nose style of game which fits Carolina's motto so if he can impress, he could potentially save his NHL career. Otherwise, he may be packing for a career in the minors or overseas.
