Friedman Reveals Tragic News Regarding Star Goaltender
While talking about potential landing spots for Anaheim Ducks goalie John Gibson Elliotte Friedman let some sad news slip about another star goalie.
Elliotte talks about John Gibson and wonders if Carolina or New Jersey could be interested because of their current goalie situations. Says Carolina is prepared for the chance Frederik Andersen doesn't play again this year. #FlyTogether #CauseChaos #NJDevils #NHL #NHLHockeyAccording to Friedman Carolina Hurricanes goalie Frederik Andersen might not return this year. Andersen signed a two-year deal with the Hurricanes this offseason. Now it looks as though he will be out for the year due to his injury suffered in November. This has led to the Hurricanes looking for another option to improve their goaltending.
Is Goaltending Holding Back The Hurricanes?
The Carolina Hurricanes have been without Andersen for over a month now. In his absence, Pyotr Kochetkov and Antti Raanta have split starts.
Kochetkov the 24-year-old top goalie prospect for the Canes began the season in the AHL. He was doing fantastic there developing his skills. Since being called up he has struggled putting up a 3.12 goals-against average and a 0.873 save percentage.
Raanta served in a backup role to Andersen before his injury. He has also struggled in his appearances this season. In 12 games he has a 3.33 goals-against average and a 0.863 save percentage.
With both players struggling the Hurricanes need to find a bonafide starter if they are going to get back to being Stanley Cup favorites. This would mean going after a player like John Gibson or another player of his caliber. It will be interesting to see how their process in finding a goalie progresses.
