Controversial Tom Wilson Proves He Is Not All Bad After Winning Prestigious Award
Tom Wilson has built himself a reputation in the NHL through his play, however, he has recently proved he isn't all that bad after winning this award.
Wilson Named One of Washingtonian of the Year
Tom Wilson has developed a rugged reputation on the ice, having several incidents that have landed him suspensions over the years. However, if you ask a Capitals fan, they will undoubtedly tell you how much they love Tom Wilson. He is a classic example of a player you hate until they are on your team.
Now, this has become clear to everyone, as Wilson was recently named a 'Washingtonian' of the Year by Washingtonian Magazine, recognizing people who make the City great.
Congratulations to @tom_wilso, who has been named one of
@washingtonian magazine's Washingtonians of the Year!
Wilson joins nine other local honorees, whose incredible work in the community is making the region a better place to live.
Wilson's contributions off the ice in Washington are primarily focussed around his Charity, Forty Three's Friends, which provides tickets and postgame meet and greets to kids. He, and his fellow teammates, are also part of the charity So Kids Can.
Wilson Has Lived Up to Contract Extension On the Ice
Wilson has put his roots down in Washington, as signalled by the seven-year extension he signed over the summer to pretty much lock him in with the Capitals for the remainder of his career.
The Washington Capitals have re-signed forward Tom Wilson to a seven-year, $45.5 million contract extension. Wilson, a three-time 20-goal scorer, is under contract with the Capitals through the 2030-31 season. Read more here: https://washca.ps/3OpvDBp
He is living up to that extension, too, with 14 points in 23 games after coming off an extensive knee injury. Capitals fans will be happy that Wilson has been recognized by their City as one of the greats off the ice.
