One of the Washington Capitals best players Evgeny Kuznetzov has recently spoke his mind, about his old coach and now the Russian star has called his teammate out.
Kuznetzov Fires a Nasty Shot At Fellow Teammate
In a recent interview, Evgeny Kuznetsov wasted no time taking a shot at his recently signed teammate. Kuztnetsov was asked about Alexander Alexeyev re-signing in Washington. His response has taken the internet by storm.
"Sanya Alexeyev is so happy after the season,» Kuznetsov said per a sports.ru transcription and translation by Google Translate. «I have two more years.' I say: You're a fool. Now they'll sign someone and you'll be the seventh [defender] to ride [the bench most] of the year' No, what are you getting at?'
"In the end, they took (Joel) Edmundson, leaving (Rasmus) Sandin and (Martin) Fehervary. That's three left [defensemen]. And [Alexeyev's] signed for another two years."
Kuznetzov firing a shot like this at his newly signed defenseman for signing a team with pre-determined defensive core that sees Alexeyev on the outside looking in.
The Capitals pre-determined defensive core
The Capitals currently have 7 defensemen signed that have NHL experience. With Alexeyev on the verge of a possible breakout it gives the Capitals a problem.
The current projected top six of the Capitals looks like this:
Sandin - Carlson
Fehervary - Jensen
Edmunson - Van Riemsdyk
Alexeyev
With Fehervary showing himself to be a top defensive defenseman in the league, Sandin breaking out upon his arrival in Washington and Edmundson being a NHL veteran it leaves Alexeyev fighting for chance on this capitals team.
Alexey just signed a two-year deal with an average AAV of $1.65, the 23-year-old defenseman will have to prove himself to be better than one of those players in order to get regular time with this years Capitals roster.
With Alexeyev's teammates already doubting his decision to re-sign with the team, it seems like it is an uphill battle for the young defencer.
