First Round Pick Savagely Claps Back At His Doubters
A 2023 first-round pick has responded to everybody doubting him.
Leafs Select Cowan At 28
During the 2023 NHL draft, the Toronto Maple Leafs surprised everybody by selecting Easton Cowan 28th overall. Cowan was projected as a mid-second-round player to an early third-round player so going in the late first was surprising to many.
This has led to him facing criticism as the Leafs passed on other players projected to go earlier in the draft like Mikhail Gulyayev, Gavin Brindley, and Andrew Cristall.
Cowan Claps Back
In a recent interview, Cowan spoke on the hate he received and what he thinks about it.
"People want to call it a reach, they can call it a reach. It's their opinion and it is what it is. They don't think I'm that good, so be it. It's not my problem. I'm just going to focus on myself and try to stay positive. You're in those lights now, so people will hate on whatever you do in life. That's what it comes down to now, so I use it as fuel. I kind of laugh it off. I'm going to do what I love to do and that's compete, have fun and try to win." - Easton Cowan
Cowan clearly has the proper mentality for the NHL. He was a fast riser throughout the course of the 2023 season. He ended up posting 53 points in 68 games during the regular season but kicked it up in the playoffs with 21 points in 20 games.
If he continues his strong progression, he could be a key figure in the Maple Leafs offense for years to come.
