Former OHL Player Passes Away After Battle With Cancer

Some sad news was announced recently on the OHL's social media pages. A former standout defenseman has passed away after a valiant battle against cancer.
Former OHL Player Passes Away
Last night the OHL announced that former defenseman for the Windsor Spitfires Paul Giallonardo had passed away. According to the post Giallonardo was battling against cancer before he passed away.
The #OHL is mourning the loss of an alumnus gone much too soon. @SpitsHockey graduate Paul Giallonardo passed away on Sunday following a battle with cancer. He was just 39 years-old.
IN MEMORIAM
Before his unfortunate health decline, Giallonardo was known for being a mainstay in the Windsor Spitfires lineup and then went on to pro hockey.
Giallonardo Career Snapshot
Paul Giallonardo played in the OHL from 2001 to 2005, recording 91 points in 247 career games. He then moved on to play at St. Thomas University in Canada. While there he was a steady presence for his team playing 28 games in each season.
Finally, Giallonardo turned pro and took his talents to Italy he spent one season with Alleghe where he played 46 games. He then decided to retire from hockey after the 2008-09 season.
Our thoughts go out to Giallonardo's family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time.
