The Leafs are in need of a new GM and Brendan Shanahan has asked for Gary Bettman's help to find a GM. This is actually a fantastic move from Shanahan because Bettman is in communication with anybody NHL related.
Bettman will know who is the best candidate for the Leafs given their GM wish list and he could also suggest a candidate the Leafs are not considering.
There are many good candidates for the next Leafs GM but it comes down to three figures.
The first is former Flames GM Brad Treliving. Treliving is a leading candidate for many teams and is likely going to have a role somewhere in the NHL next season.
The next is the current Hurricanes Assistant GM, Eric Tulsky. Tulsky is seen as a person who will be a GM somewhere very soon and is one of the pioneers of advanced analytics in the NHL.
The final candidate is the current acting GM for the Leafs, Brandon Pridham. Pridham will likely be with the Leafs next season and if he were to execute well as an AGM with the Leafs right now, the ownership may decide he is the answer.
