Kyle Dubas just can't seem to stay out of the news, as he's now the center of attention in a league investigation. The former Leafs general manager has been jobless for all of a week and is already finding ways to get on the NHL's bad side.
NHL Investigating Dubas For Conflict of Interest
Kyle Dubas is being investigated by the NHLPA for a potential conflict of interest, as his agent and the agent who represents Leafs superstar Auston Matthews are employed by the same agency.
The NHLPA wants to determine if Dubas' agent and Matthews' agent working for the same company is a conflict of interest when it comes to negotiating contracts. This is a valid concern and will be looked into thoroughly.
"The question for the NHLPA to determine: Are agents working for the same agency, but in a different division or arm of the firm, also prohibited from representing hockey executives on the other side of the table?" - Frank Seravalli
Should Dubas Be Worried?
While it might seem like a big deal, the likely outcome is that if they find there was a conflict of interest in contract negotiations, the NHLPA will bar two agents employed by the same company from representing both sides of a negotiation.
Dubas shouldn't be too worried, but it will be an interesting investigation to follow nonetheless.
