According to Renaud Lavoie Mailloux was supposed to meet with Commissioner Gary Bettman in July to discuss a potential reinstatement path. A separate source said that for this meeting to happen it would have to be requested by the Canadiens organization.
During his press conference, Kent Hughes confirmed that the meeting between Bettman and Mailloux did in fact happen. However, no other information or ruling has been made from Bettman or the league.
What's Next For The Canadiens And Mailloux
We learned a couple of key things from this announcement.
First, according to one report the Montreal Canadiens had to have requested this meeting with Bettman. This potentially means that they see Mailloux in their roster in the near future.
Second, this means that Mailloux is making progress in his return to eligibility. While he has not been reinstated so far the situation will likely continue to develop heading into the 2023-24 season.
