Major Setback Expected For Top Leafs Prospect
Matthew Knies has far exceeded the expectations placed on him when he was drafted in the 6th round. As such, he has rocketed up the Leafs depth chart and he is now one of the team's most promising prospects.

Knies Could Spend Time With The Marlies
Unfortunately for the young forward, the Leafs are one of the most cap-strapped teams in the league and as such, he could end up being a cap casualty despite being on an entry-level contract. This news comes from Leafs Nation host Nick Richard, who pointed out this possibility on Twitter.
That being said, there is good news for Leafs fans. As Richard pointed out, this move would likely be a paper transaction designed to get the team to be cap-compliant by Monday's deadline. As a result, Knies could still be with the Leafs for opening night.
Knies is coming off a strong showing in the playoffs in which he scored four points in seven games.
