The Philadelphia Flyers were widely seen as major winners at the 2023 NHL Draft when they selected Matvei Michkov. Michkov was seen as a generational talent. However, recently he was disciplined by his current team for a terrible stretch of play in the KHL.

Michkov Disciplined For Terrible Play

Earlier today Matvei Michkov and HK Sochi went up against Kunlun Red Star in the KHL. What was expected to be a major victory for Michkov and Sochi quickly turned to disaster.

HK Sochi got routed by Kunlun and Michkov had major struggles. Through two periods Michkov was a minus four. With this terrible performance, Michkov was benched and did not see the ice in the third period.

UPDATE
Per source, #LetsGoFlyers #Sochi Matvei Michkov was -4 today and was indeed benched. #KHL

Luckily for Philadelphia Flyers fans and Michkov this is likely an isolated incident. Michkov has been torching the KHL this season and showing that generational talent potential.

Michkov Tearing Up The KHL Proving His Doubters Wrong

Leading up to the 2023 NHL Draft there were split opinions on Michkov. Some teams thought he was an elite talent. Others did not want to draft him at all. So far this season Michkov is proving his supporters including the Philadelphia Flyers right.

This season Michkov has 33 points in 38 KHL games. These stats put Michkov near the top of the KHL for a player his age. He also is second on his team in scoring despite playing 15 fewer games than the player above him.

Michkov will continue to be one of the top prospects in hockey until he does eventually make the jump to North America. Once his season in the KHL finishes Philly fans and NHL fans will begin the talk about potentially signing him.
