Hakala Receives Successful Surgery After Collision Leaves Her Paralysed
The tragic news regarding Sanni Hakala has shocked the hockey world who is now collectively sending their thoughts to her. During a Swedish Women's Hockey League game, the two-time Olympic medalist collided head first with the post, leaving her without feeling in her lower extremities. Hakala was stretchered off the ice.
Now, more details have surfaced regarding Hakala's injury, and the support she is receiving from hockey fans.
Last Friday evening, HV71's team captain Sanni Hakala was injured in a situation where the HV forward collided with the goal cage and injured his neck. Sanni Hakala was taken to hospital by ambulance and underwent surgery on Saturday. Sanni Hakala was transferred from the Ryhov County Hospital to the University Hospital in Linköping on Friday evening and underwent surgery there on Saturday for the neck injuries she received after the accident.
The surgeons at the hospital announce that the operation went well and that a long period of rehabilitation awaits Sanni, something that she now needs to focus on in peace and quiet. She has great support from her relatives and representatives from the club and is grateful for all the warmth she has received from the entire hockey family. The Hockey World is collectively sending its thoughts and prayers to Hakala in hopes that she can make a recovery to have a meaningful quality of life. The 26-year-old Finnish player has won two Olympic medals with Finland for women's hockey.
Today's SDHL match between HV71 and Djurg�rdens IF was suspended after forward 🇫🇮Sanni Hakala crashed headfirst into the goal post.
The 26-year-old had to be stretchered off the ice, was rushed to the hospital, and has reportedly suffered severe injuries.
