This offseason the Edmonton Oilers signed free agent Connor Brown to a contract with a cap hit of 775k. The contract comes with a big bonus for playing 10 games though. If Brown plays 10 games he gets an additional 3.25 million dollar bonus. This bonus would then be added onto next year's salary cap for the Oilers.
With this in mind, the Oilers need to decide if Brown is worth the investment on the cap next season. As of now, he has struggled mightily with no points in 7 games. He has also given up a goal three times while on the ice.
If Brown continues to struggle he could lose out on a major chunk of change in his pocket.
Connor Brown has two games to prove that he is worth the bonus money. The first is the Heritage Classic against the Calgary Flames. Then the Oilers will face the Minnesota Wild. Both contests will be without Connor McDavid who is dealing with an injury.
Brown was expected to contend for top-six minutes in Edmonton if he continues to fall short of these expectations he will likely be sent down or traded to another team. Many were hoping that Brown could get back to his old self after his major injury and now he has just a few days to restore that hope.
