The long-awaited decision of Patrick Kane choosing his next team has come to a conclusion with the veteran forward signing a $2.75m deal with the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.
Decision a long time coming
Working his way back from hip resurfacing surgery, Kane, a free agent, had been tied to numerous teams over the last couple of months as he worked his way back to playing shape.
After 16 seasons, and two Stanley Cups with the Chicago Blackhawks, the All-Star was traded to the New York Rangers last spring, where he'd tally 12 points in 19 regular season games, and a goal and five assists during a first-round playoff loss to the Devils.
He underwent surgery once New York was eliminated and began a six-month rehabilitation that has brought him to this point.
Prior to the team making it official, TSN's Elliotte Friedman broke the news with a post on X, formerly Twitter, early Tuesday morning.
In 16 NHL seasons, Kane has played in 1,180 games, scored 451 goals, and added 786 assists. His 1,237 points rank 42nd all-time in NHL history.
