Penguins Writer Reveals A Massive Clause In Sidney Crosby's Next Contract
We now know what will be a part of Sidney Crosby's contract extension next year.
Crosby's Career Contracts
Sidney Crosby has notoriously been one of the most underpaid players in the NHL. Throughout his 18-year career, 15 years have been at an AAV of $8.7 million.
This is quite cheap considering how Crosby was the best player on the planet for so long and is still one of the best players in the NHL. Coming off a 93-point year, it still seems like $8.7 is an underpay for Crosby. Other players in Crosby's range for points are mainly looking for eight figures on their next deal.
With two years left on his current deal, Crosby will have to wait before negotiating another contract but it will be done quickly.
Crosby's Future Contract Certainty
Sidney Crosby and the number 87 have a close relationship. Born on 8/7/87, Crosby has worn 87 his entire career and has made it a focal point of all of his contracts.
Recently, Dave Molinari of Pittsburgh Hockey Now said the following:
"While precisely how many seasons Crosby's next contract will cover is hard to say, there's not much mystery about the money that will be involved. It's pretty much a lock to be based on some permutation of «87,» whether it's the third in a series of contracts with an $8.7 million salary-cap hit, a deal that pays him $87 an hour or one that's worth 87 cents per second."
87 and Crosby go hand in hand so it is quite reasonable to expect his next contract to be $8.7 million AAV again as Crosby is still preforming where that could be a possibility. Only time will tell what Crosby's next contract will be but it is guaranteed that it will have 87 involved in the numbers.
