Now, both of these teams had very poor 2021-22 season, but they both came into this season with different goals in mind. The Philadelphia Flyers thought they could still be a contending team and brought in John Tortorella to right the ship, which to this point he has done exactly that. The Flyers are 5-2-1 to start the season and currently hold a playoff spot in the Metro division.
The Montreal Canadiens on the other hand, came into this season with the goal of rebuilding and trying for another high draft pick in the upcoming draft, but again, as they hoped to be losing, they have a 5-4-0 record and are tied with the Buffalo Sabres for the third playoff spot in the Atlantic division.
The Montreal Canadiens have some top 6 players they would like to unload this season for the chance at some additional prospects and picks, and with all the injuries in Philadelphia, they could make great trade partners.
The Canadiens are very deep in the forward ranks, so deep that former 20+ goal scorers are finding themselves healthy scratches because there is simply no space for them.
The Flyers with the absence of Sean Couturier this season have a lack of depth at center, and when a player who has a career high of 32 points in currently your second line center, you know there is a problem. While Scott Laughton brings a lot more values than just offense, you need your top 6 to be producing points.
Sam Carchidi of Philadelphia Hockey now said the Flyers have targeted three potential trade targets, and one of those players being Christian Dvorak from the Montreal Canadiens.
Dvorak is a natural center, and while his career high is not much more than Laughton's, he does possess much more offensive potential than Laughton. He is also very good in the faceoff dot. This season he is averaging 56.3%, while the Flyers are currently averaging 42%.
The Flyers are very deep on the blue line, and that's where Montreal is currently very weak, so here is the trade proposal put forward:
York is a former teammate of Cole Caufield, so reuniting them on the powerplay could work wonders for the Canadiens.
The Philadelphia Flyers' growing injury list could provide the Montreal Canadiens with an opportunity to solve their logjam at forward.
