The New York Rangers have been all over the trade rumours as of late, and it now appears they've found their next top target ahead of the March 8 trade deadline.

Elias Lindholm to the Big Apple?

Recently, it has been reported that Kaapo Kakko is officially on the trade block for the Rangers, and with an injury to Filip Chytil that sees him ruled out for the remainder of the year, a top centre coming back in any trade makes sense.

Now, the object of their affection has been revealed to be Elias Lindholm, who was reportedly atop the Rangers wish list even before Chytil went down with his season ending injury, according to Larry Brooks.

We're told Calgary's pending free-agent center Elias Lindholm, a Selke finalist is at the top of the Blueshirts' wish list and indeed had been even before Chytil was ruled out for the year. His name, according to a well-placed individual, has been at the forefront of internal discussions kind of the way Patrick Kane's was last year and even after the Rangers jumped the market to acquire Vladamir Tarasenko nearly a month ahead of the deadline.

An elite, two-way centre with plenty of potential

It's not been confirmed whether or not the Rangers have any interest in moving Kakko to land Lindholm, but given that he has tallied 64 goals over his past two full seasons, it's a move that could make sense.

In 2023-24, Lindholm is struggling for that form, notching just 9 goals and 32 points in 49 games, but if he finds himself alongside elite talent once again, it's safe to say that he could give this team the centre depth they need to compete for a Stanley Cup.
