Tonight mayhem broke loose when a Senators player laid out Matt Tkachuk with a dirty hit.

Sens Forward Ejected After Dirty Hit On Tkachuk

During the Senators and Panthers game tonight Matthew Tkachuk was flying around the ice. He at one point laid a clean check on an Ottawa player. Senators forward Zack MacEwen did not seem to like the hit and came flying at Tkachuk and went after him hard.

Zack MacEwen received a match penalty for an illegal check to the head of Matthew Tkachuk and will face an automatic suspension from the Department of Player Safety, pending official review. #GoSensGo

MacEwen was ejected for the big hit on Tkachuk which now leads to the question of further discipline from the league.

MacEwen To Face Suspension From Department Of Player Safety

Zack MacEwen will now have a meeting with the NHL that will culminate in at least a one-game suspension from the NHL. The most recent suspension handed down by the NHL happened earlier today to Ryan Hartman for a slew-foot.

Minnesota's Ryan Hartman has been suspended for two games for tripping Detroit's Alex DeBrincat.

With this reference, MacEwen could be looking at a 2 to 3-game suspension potentially more. The intent was much more noticeable with MacEwen than with Hartman. MacEwen went out of his way to take his aggression out on Tkachuk even after he was defenseless on the ice.

As more information becomes available in this developing situation we will be able to provide it to you.
