Long Time NHL Coach Mike Babcock Steps Down From His Position in Columbus.
Yesterday, Mike Babcock made the decision to step down from his position as head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets, just days before the start of training camp. This move follows a recent investigation into his behaviour during player meetings, which left some younger players feeling uncomfortable.
Last week, Mike Bissonnette and the Spittin' Chiclets Podcast exposed allegations against Babcock. According to the podcast, Babcock had been requesting access to players' photos on their phones as a means to 'get to know the players'
Trusted NHL Insider Shares His Opinion on the Babcock Situation
"Columbus weren't comfortable with the way he was handling the young players in the organization."
While speaking on this controversial situation, Johnston also added:
"This was already going to be his last job in the NHL. The way this has unraveled I don't see him seeking other employment and I don't see other teams coming knocking"

Johnston believes that Babcock's career in the NHL has reached its end. His inappropriate 'old-school' approach to dealing with the players no longer aligns with the standards of 2023. It's unfortunate that it took this long for something to give but players can feel fortunate that this type of thing should no longer happen in the NHL.
Babcock has amassed sufficient wealth in the NHL to gracefully retire, and the NHL no longer wishes to deal with the challenges associated with him and his coaching style.
